Wheelchair and Mobility Device Repair Program

Nick Feldman Wheelchair and Mobility Device Repair Program

Individuals who require mobility devices (wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, etc.) often find themselves dealing with repair and service needs that their insurance won’t cover. A broken wheelchair can easily limit a person’s ability to leave their home, go to work, attend medical appointments, and socialize with friends and family.

This program is open to adults who live or work in San Francisco. While we offer services on-site by appointment, we understand that breakdowns tend to happen at the most inconvenient times. For this reason, we offer on-call field services and house calls. If complex repairs need to be carried out or parts are on backorder, we’re usually able to provide temporary loaner devices whenever.

Some consumers need support and advocacy regarding their healthcare coverage and funding for durable medical equipment. Program staff with extensive experience in this area help consumers understand their coverage and how to advocate for themselves in an effort to get the most of their insurance plans. If a consumer’s mobility device is beyond repair, staff are usually able to work with Assistive Technology staff in matching the consumer with a chair or scooter from our Reuse Program.
