PURPOSE:
To bring the California disability and business communities together to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the ADA and to promote the expansion of a barrier-free and inclusive society.
EVENT THEME:
The Disability Unity Festival: Strengthening our Communities ~ Celebrating 25 years of the ADA is a public event that brings California residents, businesses, and organizations together to celebrate the value of all members of our community – a community that makes California a vibrant, diverse, forward-thinking, and exciting place to live, work, learn, and grow.
PARADE AND FESTIVAL
- Formerly known as the West Coast Disability Pride Parade & Festival: A parade that celebrates disability as a natural and beautiful part of the human condition and promotes pride in the diversity and unity of all communities.
- Parade floats depicting participant’s celebration of the ADA.
- A 1.0 mile parade / rally route, leading from Federal Office Building, United Nations Plaza to Civic Center Plaza in San Francisco, will allow for a visible and orderly line of walking and rolling participants and slow moving floats/vehicles.
- A vendor area for businesses and organizations to showcase their products and services for people with disabilities, employers, and the public. Dynamic displays, use audio/visual displays, swag and product samples encouraged.

EVENT ORGANIZERS: Six Independent Living Center (ILC) organizations/programs are co-sponsoring this event: Center for Independence of Individuals with Disabilities, San Mateo; Community Resources for Independent Living, Hayward; Independent Living Resources of Solano and Contra Costa, Concord; Independent Living Resource Center, San Francisco; Marin Center for Independent Living, San Rafael; Silicon Valley Independent Living Center, San Jose, together with the California Foundation for Independent Living, Sacramento and the Disability Organizing Network. ILCs are peer-based disability organizations that advocate and provide resources for people with disabilities.
