ILRCSF is pleased to offer the newest National Council on Independent Living accessibility training effort, the NCIL Accessibility Survey Academy Project (NCIL ASAP). This training is geared toward independent living center staff and people with disabilities.
Goals of the Training Project include:
- To have independent living center Staff and community members trained on measuring/surveying for accessibility, as well as reporting formats to provide results and recommendations from surveys.
- To establish advocacy-driven networks of trained individuals within the disability community that have up to date information regarding current issues relevant to accessibility.
This ASAP training is a 3 day 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design-based training that covers the basics of accessibility surveying. This training format provides participants with a better understanding of how accessibility survey services are performed, and gives more meaning to the measurements in the 2010 ADA Standards for Accessible Design.
Participants will have the opportunity to participate in a hands-on training exercise that provides the unique experience of putting survey tools to work in at least one local facility during the training..
On the third day of training, a review of available resources helps participants understand how to select and use the right data-collection tool for different types of facilities that participants may survey in their communities. Typical formats for survey reports are also discussed.
The ultimate goal is for community members to return to being the premier resource in the community for accessibility advice and survey services. This training is conducted by nationally known accessibility trainer/consultant Mark Derry.
This training is FREE of charge. A certificate of completion will be provided to all participants who complete the training. Participants will also be provided with a free set of surveying tools.
